I posted this yesterday but pulled it after I started to doubt the provenance of the photo. The photo seemed real enough, but I wasn’t sure exactly when the event had happened, and was worried that it was old footage recently unearthed but misleadingly described as recent.

I’ve now traced the source of the photo to my own satisfaction, and am convinced both that the photo is real and that the event it depicts really did take place this past weekend–on either Saturday the 29th or Sunday the 30th. The original eyewitness source appears to be one Andrea Christo of East Windsor, New Jersey, who filmed the demonstration as she drove by, and then either took a still of the scene below or screenshotted her own video. People have been telling me for fifteen years that my worries about the rise of fascism and neo-Nazi racism are overblown. Well, here’s a photo of the corner of Nassau and Stockton Streets, taken either August 29 or 30th in the supposedly woke college town of Princeton, New Jersey. “Keep New Jersey White.” Since New Jersey isn’t white, their point, obviously, is that it has to be made white at gunpoint. Any guesses how?

Not a tough question. ICE has raided Princeton five times in the last two years (July 2024, February 2025, July 2025, Sept-October 2025, and January 2026), has raided every town or city around Princeton (Trenton, Montgomery, Hightstown, East Windsor), and has raided just about every major town or city in New Jersey from Sussex to Cape May.

A rough indication of the ubiquity of the phenomenon: I’m a totally random person, a U.S. citizen, with no strong reason to interact with ICE. Yet my workplace has been on the receiving end of an ICE fishing expedition–DHS agent shows up unannounced at the door, asking random questions about random people with Hispanic surnames–and I’ve narrowly missed walking straight into ICE operations twice myself. Walking into one by accident is just a matter of time; being stopped and questioned in one is probably also just a matter of time. If I look online virtually any day of the week, I’ll see video of an ICE raid taking place in a neighborhood I frequent. That I’m not there when it’s happening is purely a matter of chance.

Quantitatively: One source gives 5,331 ICE arrests in New Jersey for 2025. Another source gives 2,100 ICE arrests in New Jersey in the month of July 2026 alone–67 arrests a day, every day, for a month. Qualitatively, this is what life is like now every day in this state, in town after town:

ICE has pulled over immigrants driving to work and detained entire crews on their way to landscaping jobs, immigration lawyers said.

Scenes of agents chasing immigrants on foot have rattled immigrant-rich towns like Lakewood, where the Mexican supermarket was raided, keeping residents off the streets and forcing businesses to lock their doors for hours at a time. Those arrested have been sent to immigration detention centers including Delaney Hall in Newark, a 1,000-bed facility that has been plagued by complaints of unsanitary living conditions.

The overall surge in arrests has appeared to operate largely out of public view, insulated by more targeted operations and limited media attention.

It’s not enough that it has to take place, but then it has to be lied about again and again. Holly Schepisi still wants to pretend that health conditions at Delaney Hall are fine. Politico still hasn’t withdrawn its transparent fabrication that the Health Department found Delaney Hall’s condition “Satisfactory.” NJ.com still wants to pretend that a finding of Conditionally Satisfactory is the same as saying that no serious violations were found. There’s no penalty for confabulation or intellectual dishonesty in the all-white, non-DEI, totally woke-free universe of the DHS Apologist Corps. If only black academics like Jason Arday covered the Jersey immigration beat! Maybe then we’d get some accountability. Unfortunately, I don’t see Holly Schepisi or the editors of Politico committing suicide any time soon.

The pretense that ICE was going after “criminals” died a long time ago (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). We don’t in any case have an “immigrant crime” problem in Princeton, and apart from ICE malfeasances themselves (see 1 and 2) have seen no decrease in “immigrant crime rates” here since the intensification of ICE raids, much less one attributable to ICE itself. As far as crime statistics are concerned, there is no such thing. What we have instead are just daily raids, two urban concentration camps full of non-criminals, a growing pile of in-custody corpses, constant pressure to build more concentration camps in warehouses designed to house inanimate objects, and daily calls to raid more, arrest more, to cleanse the state of “illegals,” and to make Jersey “white again.” In short, what we have is a measurably fascist solution to a measurably non-existent problem.

I guess my question for the skeptics at this point is that if this isn’t fascism, just what is it? And whatever we call it, what will it take before people see it for the threat it is, rise up, and respond en masse?
