Every system of mass transportation I use—trains, buses, airlines—gives a discount to active service military personnel. Some go beyond this, giving them special lounges and priority in boarding. Isn’t this a form of complicity, however ostensibly minor, in the wars they fight? And hasn’t the time come to put an end to it?

We’re already paying a hefty price for their wars. And riding or flying in military uniform turns us all into targets. What exactly are we thanking these people for? They’re not keeping us safe. They’re destroying the world.

Military personnel are not special, and we owe them nothing. Have them pay their own way, get in line, and take off the uniform. It’s bad enough that we tolerate their presence at all. The least we can demand is that they stop throwing their criminality in our faces, and demanding special privileges for it.
