Every system of mass transportation I use—trains, buses, airlines—gives a discount to active service military personnel. Some go beyond this, giving them special lounges and priority in boarding. Isn’t this a form of complicity, however ostensibly minor, in the wars they fight? And hasn’t the time come to put an end to it?
We’re already paying a hefty price for their wars. And their riding or flying in military uniform turns us all into targets. What exactly are we thanking these people for? They’re not keeping us safe. They’re destroying the world.
Military personnel are not special, and we owe them nothing. Have them take off their uniforms in public, pay their own way, and get in line to board like the rest of us. It’s bad enough that we tolerate their presence at all. The least we can demand is that they stop throwing their criminality in our faces, and demanding special privileges for it.
A lot of bookstores give a military discount — particularly in my beloved San Diego, which despite its many merits is a heavily military town. The anarchist bookstore in La Jolla doesn’t, though.

I’d been thinking of transportation, so retail hadn’t really occurred to me, but I looked it up, and retail is a bonanza of its own.

They’re basically just bribing people into committing crimes.
