War with Iran

I’m gratified to tell you that I have no interest whatsoever in blogging right now about Israel’s recent attack on Iran’s diplomatic complex in Damascus, or yesterday’s Iranian attack on Israel, or the Biden Administration’s pledge of “ironclad” support for Israel, or the years-long “shadow war” that preceded the current altercation. For now, I’ll just remind you that back in 2020, I wrote a series of twenty-four posts about Donald Trump’s contribution to US-Iranian hostilities. Biden’s recent contribution is just a continuation of Trump’s, itself a continuation of several decades’ worth of Western policies aimed at Iran.

Every time my Democratic friends try to persuade me to vote for Biden–“If you think Biden is bad, imagine how much worse Trump will be!”–Biden manages to continue some policy that Trump began, and manages to make it worse than Trump ever did. In the last five months, I’ve written my Democratic senators, Cory Booker and “Bob” Menendez, no less than sixty letters asking why they voted against Rand Paul’s Joint Resolution (SJ Res. 51) withdrawing US troops from Syria. They haven’t acknowledged receipt of a single letter, much less responded to any of them.

I guess my response to that is: that’s fine, but don’t expect me to give a shit when those soldiers come home in body bags, as some already have. You put them there, not me. And if you can’t explain why you won’t withdraw them when you have the opportunity, feel free to take personal responsibility when they end up splattered all over the bases you sent them to. But don’t come crying to me, or expect my sympathy for your war dead, my allegiance to your war aims, or my hatred for your endless list of civilizational enemies, when the next Iranian missile hits its target. I don’t give a shit for you, your country, your war, or your allies, much less your electoral prospects. And Democrats? Whatever you do, don’t bother me with your Act Blue bullshit. I just did the paperwork to de-affiliate from the Democratic Party. It took something out of me to waste a stamp on the process of leaving the party. That’s about how far my loyalties to it extend.

All twenty-four posts from 2020 are now tagged under a new category I’ve created, “War with Iran.” Click on the “War with Iran” category tag above to go on a nostalgic journey in the last sociopathic episode of “Iran vs. The West.” Maybe next year I’ll add to the series, but for now, I’m content to grab some popcorn and watch.

In truth, the more hatred The West expresses for Iran, the greater my desire to vacation there. I’ve always wanted to go to Qum. But popcorn being cheaper than a plane ticket, I guess I’m fated to stay put.
