Resistencia en Acción Rapid Response Emergency Fund
There’s a lot more to say about Rapid Response to ICE detention, which I hope to say here soon, but for now, I wanted to announce Resistencia en Acción’s Rapid Response Emergency Fund in the hopes of getting some contributions from readers. The preceding link takes you to the donation form on zeffy.com. You can also get to the link by going to Resistencia’s Facebook page, and scrolling down to the post for August 21, 11:50 pm.
You can read a short introductory discussion of mine to Rapid Response here, a useful overview here (click the “Rapid Response Overview” PDF), and read reporting on Resistencia’s rapid response to an ICE raid in Trenton here and here. There’s also plenty of coverage on their Facebook and Instagram pages. I wish I had the luxury of laying out a full, worked-out case for Rapid Response before I solicited contributions, but I don’t.
One obvious rationale for funds is to pay the legal expenses of rapid responders on the receiving end of arrest, as in the case of Resistencia activist Asma Elhuni, who’s been arrested for the second time this summer doing migrant defense work. People like Asma are the last line of defense between the rest of us and fascism. They deserve our solidarity and support.
