Senator Menendez, tweeting a few hours before he met with us.
Hamas targeted Israeli civilian structures. This is why I will always ensure that the iron dome is funded. Israel has every right to defend herself. Hamas controls Gaza and is responsible for attacks on Israeli citizens. They must be held accountable. https://t.co/ngIIdvH6yq

No word on Israel’s targeting Gazan civilians, on Palestinians’ right of self-defense, on Israeli accountability for the killing of unarmed, non-threatening individuals, or on the possibility of Israel’s having violated the Leahy Law. No acknowledgement of the significance of the Israeli blockade of Gaza, and no attempt to clarify who initiated the current round of hostilities. Just: Israel is under attack, Israel needs to respond, Israeli security is paramount, and no other considerations are worthy of concern.
I’d like to think we made a dent in that attitude. But just a dent.
Coverage of the protest at NJ.com. The print version, I believe, appears in today’s Bergen Record.

They interviewed me, but apparently decided not to include that segment in the final version of their piece.
